It’s true that Tiger knows nothing about the “travails of us ordinary guys,” but of course neither does any particular RUclips pro viz your or my swing. As a long-time RUclips explorer I think it’s fair to say that most of us are hopeful of rather serendipitously “connecting” with someone or some “thought” that will actually make a long-term difference and this no doubt does happen from time to time. From my experience, however, I think the most profound difference comes from in-person diagnosis and instruction by a competent professional. The problem I think for the vast majority of us who are highly motivated but only moderately athletically gifted is we literally cannot afford financially and/ or time-wise the level of “monitoring and correction” by such a pro that is necessary for us to truly accomplish long- term results. Most likely there is no substitute for such instruction at an early age. Mean time we either persevere or surrender!

Before RUclips, us older hackers who couldn't afford lessons basically relied on golf magazines to get some ideas on how to build a better swing. Speaking for myself only, that was a disaster. Various golf publications would contradict one another and even themselves from one issue to the next. RUclips is the modern-day Golf Digest magazine. Finding the right instruction for yourself is tricky, to say the least. Don't get me wrong, there is still some good instruction on RUclips. Hopefully, we can all find that instructor that makes our game better.

Find your swing and hit, hit, hit balls . Pro gets good by hitting 1000 shots a day. Its that simple . Hogan got good by hitting til his hands fell off. The swing has to be natural or it wont work period.

Hey Allen, l love your teaching. There are so many thoughts from Tigers to all the swing coaches. I think I had stumbled on to something that l would like to hear your views. Rory has the arms drop without swing the club to initiate the down swing. Though it's working extremely well for him, but I don't see how that work. So I tried and combined all of the teachings to make sense of it. So this was what I thought is really working as a swing thought. It's to drop the arms and club down to initiate the downswing. Then at the right pivotal moment, the club head sling off from the body to generate the max club head speed (it's just the clubs are designed to square with ball trajectory). The image of David span the sling and released the pebble that killed Goliath. I think there are 2 movements in that. First is to pull the pebble down and then to span in the circular path around the body to release that pebble into orbit. I see that dynamic of dropping of arms and then to sling off the club head around the body. I find this dynamic movements kind of working; drop and sling. I think that is what Rory is doing, at least a bit of that.

This is the most important thing in a golf swing. I don’t know, why nobody else explains it like this! This was the game changer for me! If you start the swing bad without this spine movement, everything else in the swing goes bad because you start to compensate it with a lot of different bad movements. Thank you for the video!

Tiger Woods knows nothing about the travails of amateurs trying to find an instructor who can explain the golf swing in terms that they can understand. I have spent thousands of dollars and many hours taking golf lessons in person to get minimal. results. Not all online instructors will suit you or connect with you, but then it is easy to. find another that will. This is near impossible with in person instructors. My. biggest Aha moments have come with Zach, , when I finally could understand the downswing and takeaway. With you tube you can watch the same lesson over and over again, not so with in person. Zachs consistency drills were VERY helpful, leading me quickly to a better understanding of the swing that I had never achieved from in person. Tiger Woods should keep his pie hole shut when it comes to advice for us ordinary guys, as it is obvious he has NO IDEA as to our needs. I am playing better golf than ever and will never take another in person lesson, because that person. would immediately tell me I am doing every thing wron and try to bend me to HIS way.

I agree. I totally relate to what Zach is trying to teach. Pro golfers (not me) are unique physical specimens who received very focused help early in their lives. There are only 125 (or so) golfers who have full PGA tour cards and only 65 (or so) who make real money playing golf on any given weekend. I can't relate to that. I can relate to Zach - thanks for focused and consistent instruction.

I disagree with what Tiger said, because it depends. I think the reason he said this is because many of his friends are teachers who lose $$ because of RUclips golf lessons. So he may have a conflict of interest. Also some of the lessons are excessively complicated. Those are not useful. But the best lessons are simple drills to help us. Those are the ones I like. I also like them because unlike a live lesson, I can put them in rewind and watch over and over. And every time I watched them I learned something a tiny bit new. Two examples come to mind. These are 2 drills Zach gave me a long time ago and I am still learning things from these drills. The first one was called, "staying on the circle" ruclips.net/video/ZmTXZ8diZcU/видео.html Summary: It's a walk-through drill. Take a short iron, next take a back swing, hold, then step forward with the right foot, and lastly hit the ball (a little punch shot). Some things about this that you never mentioned--but I noticed it with some of your students--if the hips don't turn the golfer steps sideways (right foot parallel to the left). But if the golfer turns their hips toward the target, before hitting, they step forward (right foot at 90 degrees to left). You never mentioned which is correct for this drill. The second drill was called, "the Magic of the right arm" ruclips.net/video/aOuV4zdXt7Q/видео.html Summary: Put an empty water bottle in your pocket before swinging. The objective is you want to hear the water bottle crackle, meaning the hands stayed close to the trailing thigh. When I did this drill, what I found is my hands were always getting in front of the water bottle. So, there was no chance of ever hitting the water bottle. I also observed that as my hips turned, the hand path cut across both right and left lap, explaining why I pull so many shot left. I called it swinging across the lap, but really the problem was I was NOT staying on circle--causing me to return to the first drill. My circle was bent, like a bent hola hoop. Maybe I make a big fuss and still struggle with pulling shots left. But thank you Zach for those simple, but useful drills.

Absolutely! Positively! Just as you demonstrated: Do not deliberately start and finish your golf swing with turning your hips. Your hip turn is a reaction to your swing; never an action Percy Cooper spoke of swinging in a barrel. I now suggest that the so call barrel is the rolling rib cage of our bent chest. So let the good times roll. Let your arms and hands extend as you swing your club back and forth in a rolling barrel. Stay inside your golf posture and never chase after the ball. Your rolling barrel will turn your body approximately as well; as it creates the centrifugal force for your club head to smash directly through your ball. Bringing you up to your glorious finish. Don’t worry: Swing Happy😊Cheers

I don’t wish to get bogged down in semantics, but the end result of this movement has to be a coiling of the thoracic vertebrae. If I think of turning my body I’m prone to turn the lumbar segments too much and while my shoulder line is 90 degrees from the target, I lack any separation between my upper core and the hips. I like the way you explain the concept. I was working on something similar the other day: turning but leaving my belt buckle behind until it was pulled around by my upper core, then starting the downswing by returning my belt buckle to the midline and planting my lead foot solidly. It helped me square the club face of my driver and increased ball speed.

  • @jasonpeak1566
